Profile: Institute of Science Education

In science of education in biology, we examine the learning and teaching of biology. This includes specialist content, the methods and ways of thinking of the field as well as consideration of the specific conditions of learning processes and formats that take place in different real or virtual locations, for example at school, at the natural history museum, in the school laboratory or on the Internet.

School biology teaching is our focus when training biology teachers. In order to be able to design biological teaching-learning processes in schools, the professional skills of teachers play an important role. Therefore, the university courses in the subject area aim to train cognitive (subject and methodological knowledge) and affective dimensions (motivations and attitudes) of the professional competencies of biology teacher training students.
