From October 28 to 30, 2025, the annual conference of the IGU Commission on Geographical Education (IGU-CGE), themed "Geographical Learning Today for Tomorrow," was held at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Among the key topics was the role of geographical education in imparting the skills and understanding that learners need to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
Merle Biermann from the IDN participated with a presentation on site:
“Water and our Common Future – Raising Awareness of Water Sustainability in Geography Education” (Biermann, M. & Meyer, C.)
The presentation also included an introduction to the project „Das Lebenselement Wasser und unsere gemeinsame Zukunft – Diskurse zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung im Kontext der Klimakrise“, which was launched in July.
