The 10th EUGEO Congress of the Association of Geographical Societies in Europe (EUGEO) was held at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna from September 8-11, 2025. The congress, under the motto "Geographies of a Changing Europe," focused on transformation both with regard to disciplinary development and key issues in geography (and geography education) in Europe.
From the IDN, Merle Biermann, Lara Brede and Prof. Dr. Christiane Meyer were represented in the geography didactics session “Transformative Education put into practice” with two presentations:
Post Growth in Geography Education in the Context of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) (Brede, L. & Meyer, C.)
Fostering transformative literacy to enable transformative action: Reflecting on the project “Low-Emission-Schools in Northern Germany (LESSCO2)" (Biermann, M. & Meyer, C.)
The focus was on how transformative learning can be implemented in geography classes. This drew on Lara Brede's dissertation project and the LESSCO2 project, which was completed in July 2025.
